My work is about the communication of grief and trauma. I use my body to spark these conversations. I work from the idea that bodies in action bring more awareness to audiences who may be facing difficult situations. From my point of view a moving body, a human body is almost unforgettable. We can recall the smallest details like a pointed or flexed foot, a groove taking place in the torso or hips. It is these subtle details that captivate me. It is with these details as my medium that I hope to tell you a story of pain and beauty. In the environments I have been around the subjects of grief and trauma have been ignored or tucked under the surface. It's my goal to create, with the human body, channels of communication that can untuck what has been driven under the surface.
I will show you the stories of my past and how they have shaped my understanding of connection, I will show you the fierceness in my hands that have paved many paths from my pain. I will show you that Meh Mudda can still impact this world. It's through these stories I hope you learn what it means to be a human being in conflict . I hope you learn to see your environment and the pain in your surroundings, because as much as we can feel the pain we can also inflict it. Our environment is in distress, another part of who we are, yet we do not pay attention. I never paid attention, not until my mothers ashes found their way to Ganga( the river). My ancestral ties to the water are what sparked my interest in its pain, because now my mother and the water are one and the same.
I have done this through multimedia works featuring spoken words detailing specific situations and emotions. Then I use either site specific, somatic induced choreography and spoken word influenced movement. Then I record these movement-spoken word instigations so that they can live on in a digital format to be shown on my website, in gallery spaces and other. Through these ways of creating and displaying my experience with grief and trauma I am able to reach my intended audience and spark many interesting conversations.
